Brune is one the five major kingdoms in Madan no Ou to Vanadis series. It is also the home country to many heroes. from King Charles to Tigrevrumud Vorn.
Overview[]
Brune is one of the strongest and most influential kingdoms in the continent, being a military powerhouse consisting of many loyal and gallant warriors willing to defend Brune from possible invasions from other kingdoms. Its people also have the tendency to put honor above all else. The flag of the kingdom would be Bayard, which is in the shape of a sacred horse with a black mane and crimson body.
Despite all its power and influence, Brune also has a much darker side. One of those being the minister's poor treatment towards archers, which are deemed as cowards in warfare situations. Due to their extreme views regarding honor in battle, the archers were often mistreated by other aristocrats, despite being one of the most crucial components of any major military victory. Among them, however, Tigre is the only archer who was able to distinguish himself, fighting enemy commanders without resorting to only sneak attacks (except in most ambush attacks). But due to his handicap of being unable to use any other weapon but a bow, he cannot escape the minister's hatred of archers even if he is an aristocrat of Brune.
History[]
King Charles of Brune[]
Though little is known about the founding of the kingdom, documents suggest that King Charles was Brune's founder and late ruler. Some legends suggested that Charles started his battles after receiving a revelation from a monk living in a holy cave shrine. King Charles fought in many battlefields, wielding the legendary Durandal, his victories highly praised by his peers and people. To show his gratitude for the gods' role in his achievements, King Charles built his Royal Palace halfway up a mountain so he could meet with them. In time, the town founded at the foot of the mountain prospered greatly, with the palace eventually moved down to the city of Nice down below. Thanks to the connections to all bordering kingdoms, Brune ended up becoming one of the richest and most powerful kingdoms in history.
Feud with Zhcted[]
For over 20 years, Brune and Zhcted fought each other for dominance over the entire continent, with the most recent conflict caused by a flooding river. As a result of the event, the victims started blaming the kingdoms for their "inefficiency", which resulted in the petitions to solve the problem sparking both kingdom's hostility towards each other as they blamed the other for what happened, resulting in war.[1]
Brune's crisis began when King Faron was diagnosed with a strange illness that crippled his health, causing Brune to be wrapped in civil turbulence. To make matters worse, the crown princes, Felix Aaron Thenardier and Maximilian Benzer Ganelon, were feuding over who would rule after Faron, with no one standing against them due to their notorious reputation. In order to secure Brune's fragile stability, Prince Regnas was appointed as Faron's heir and the crown dispute between Thenardier and Ganelon was temporarily suppressed. Besides Zhcted, other kingdoms would used Brune's tensed turbulence to their advantages in order to invade the kingdom.
