After a victorious battle in Villecresnes Plains, the Silver Meteor Army managed to relax for the time being. Elen tried to wake Tigre from his slumber using bloodlust, only to be pinned down by Tigre's instinct. In an effort to prove Regin's regal status, Tigre led an expedition team and traveled down through Saint-Groel caverns. Unfortunately, they also confronted Thenardier and his men who outraced them via another route and waited for them at the Holy Grotto's main entrance. During the fighting, Saint-Groel began to collapse, forcing the survivors escape. However, Tigre was pinned down by Thenardier's second-in-command, Steid, and was about to be run through, before he was saved by Bertrand who jumped in front of his sword. Before Steid could recover from his surprise, another section of the roof collapsed and covered them all.
Some time later, Tigre awoke to find himself mostly unharmed, and Steid crushed under the rubble. Closing Steid's eyes, Tigre looked around for Bertrand, and eventually found him in an open area, fatally injured. Bertrand's final words to Tigre was that he was proud of his Lord and his accomplishments, and the man he has become, along with his certainty that Urs would approve as well.
Meanwhile, Elen and the rest of the expedition team are making their way towards the main entrance, when an explosion occurs, resembling the Black Bow's power. In relief, Elen rushes to the crater and finds Tigre passed out from exhaustion due to the bow's power. She then finds Bertrand's corpse.
Back at camp, with their impending battle with the Thenardier Army drawing closer, Gerard asks Mashas about Tigre's condition, and whether he will be alright to lead the army. Mashas responds that he is unsure if the archer could recover from Bertrand's death in time to lead.
